Newcastle City Council and News UK commissioned a permanent story-driven mural to celebrate Alan Shearer’s football legacy.
The work marked Shearer’s record-breaking Premier League career, while capturing both personal narrative and local pride.
The visual takes inspiration from the RMS Mauretania, a dazzle-camouflaged ship built in Wallsend the same year as Shearer’s childhood football club was founded. The ship is reimagined as a flock of magpies, blending football history with industrial heritage.
