North Tyneside Council


As part of North Tyneside Council's regeneration strategy, Sum.Place has developed, produced, and is installing a series of public art interventions in the new transport hub, drawing from the town's industrial heritage.

Community consultation and engagement informed the design of a 72m² wall artwork. The graphic pattern is based on Synoptic weather maps with Morse code sharing local narratives.

Net Zero principles and sustainability are central to the process. We created a suspended ceiling sculpture with over 2,000 small fish pressed from recycled plastic donated locally by, CJM Recycling and Impact Recycling.

Two 40cm3 Monkey’s Fist Knots sit on concrete plinths in the reimagined town square. Sculpted on a 5-axis CNC machine from Kilkenny Black Fossil Granite and white Carrara Marble.

A live pop-up art space created jobs for young creatives and the opportunity for the community to interact with environmental art production.
